- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
Josh Pfeiffer is reinventing the classic range of Whistler wines, bringing the brand to a new generation of Barossa wine lovers. The WTF? (What The Fronti) is an aromatic and textural white, which is something you don't often find from this region famous for powerhouse reds. The varieties aren't important, the blend was kept a mystery, because according to Josh, this "was designed to be consumed without too much thought." This won the Trophy for Best White Wine – Other Varieties or Blends at the 2016 Barossa Wine Show. Looking for interest and drinkability under $25? The What The Fronti is going to fit that slot nicely.
What it Tastes Like
Lemons, citrus blossom, a kind of stone fruit kernel character. It's not all tutti-fruity either, there's a bit of grip there. Nice pleasing creaminess with gives it some weight. Easy drink but interesting.
Trophy for Best White Wine – Other Varieties or Blends - 2016 Barossa Wines Show
FRUIT SOURCE Sourced from multiple sites across the Barossa Valley, this white blend is all about the aromatics and texture, more than the varieties that make up this blend. WINE MAKING A number of parcels make up this white blend, utilising multiple winemaking techniques in the winery to make a more complex wine. The majority of this wine was made traditionally, excluding oxygen from the process to make a bright, aromatic style of wine. A smaller portion, however, was made like a red wine- fermented on skins to create some texture, aged in new Hungarian Oak, and allowed to go through natural Malolactic fermentation. THE WINE This white blend was designed to be consumed without too much thought going into what varieties make up the wine. It is bright and aromatic in the glass, with tons of florals and tropical fruits. The palate is fresh and juicy, but it finishes with some texture and creaminess. Sit back and enjoy the multiple layers in this wine- it is great with food, but it can certainly be enjoyed on its own. About the Producer
Whistler is a boutique family-owned Barossa Valley producer. The next generation of Pfeiffers have recently taken over the reigns, transforming this reliable producer with a range of colourful, boundary-pushing reds aimed at younger customers and easy-drinking. The quality and value on offer are both excellent.
The Barossa has a big reputation. Big in every sense of the word. Known for producing blockbusting examples of impenetrable old vine Shiraz and Grenache envied by much of the world, it is a region that should be celebrated as the region that first put Australian wine on the map. Now, with a new generation of winemakers reinventing the region, there’s more than just power in the Barossa’s bag of tricks. With a move toward picking earlier and pulling back on oak maturation, there’s a fresher, more subtle side to Barossa wine which offers plenty to the modern Australian wine lover.
