- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
A special release here from young Ricky Evans. A new entrant into the superb range of wines he's compiling from small pockets of Tasmania. A name to watch on the Apple Isle, no doubt. The EST Pinot Noir comes from a small, mature vineyard on the North Eastern coastline of Tasmania. Views of the sea can be taken in from the vineyard, a marginal site with a unique climate for producing finely detailed Pinot Noir. The small inclusion of whole bunch lending structure and architecture to this wonderfully pure feeling wine. It's a treat to drink.
What it Tastes Like
Little plusher in style than the TMV. Smells of cherry elixir, pepper, seaweed, some hints of game. It's soft and silky in the mouth. All the fruit tucked in nicely with powdery tannins that are trimmed with a savoury edge. So bright. So rad.
92 points "The perfume has the east coast rugged, dusty, twig, briar and earth over red and black cherry fruit scents. The palate swerves into soft and sweet, a touch sappy, still has a lightness but teeters into a simple, refreshing kind of pinot feel that delivers easy pleasure but perhaps not as much of a cerebral hit as some will like. Still, it’s elegant, fresh feeling, super easy to drink, and trumps a lot of wines at the same price for its feel. Worth the entry fee." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)
EST is a special release sourced from the East Coast of Tasmania, with the intention of highlighting regionality within our island state. See below for detailed vintage notes. The EST16 Pinot Noir is sourced from one of the most coastal and northern vineyards in Tasmania. It was grown just north of Bicheno, a mature vineyard that lies within view of the ocean to the north and east. This highly maritime climate results in an extremely long and mild growing season, with a smaller than average diurnal range. The soft and velvety fruit profile of this vineyard is on feature in this wine, yet it still received a small amount of whole bunch inclusion in the ferment to aid structure and balance. This wine received no finings, minimal sulphur dioxide, and bottled unfiltered.

About the Producer
Two Tonne Tasmania
Two Tonne Tasmania is the brainchild of Ricky Evens. With the slogan ‘small parcels, big love’, Ricky’s approach is all about growing pristine, healthy fruit, harvesting at the right time, and then having to do as little as possible in the winery thereafter. Since their serendipitous entry into the much sort after sub-region of the Tamar Valley in 2013, their first few releases have made quite a few waves. Pinot is Ricky’s game, and he plays hard-ball.
No variety captures the hearts and minds of the wine lover quite like Pinot Noir. It’s the unicorn of many a winemaker. Notoriously fickle to grow, this delicate red variety can deliver a kaleidoscope of flavours and aromas, from the bright and floral to the moody and mysterious and everything in between. The cooler regions of Australia are where Pinot Noir is most at home. Look to Tasmania and Victoria for the best examples, with some quality wines beginning to show from the Great Southern and from the cooler parts of NSW. Falling in love with Pinot Noir can be a life long affair, beware the charms of this most enchanting of grapes.
