Phillip White called Torzi Matthews Australia’s Best Bargain Winemaker with good reason.

The wines from Domenic Torzi and Tracy Matthews are some of the best buys in the Barossa Valley. Alongside their excellent range of ‘classic’ Barossa varieties, they grow a small amount of Italian varieties, inspired by their Italian heritage.

This is their extremely tasty rendition of Negro Amaro. It’s a spicy, savoury red with a strong backbone of tannin in support. Something “Different and delicious,” according to Gary Walsh’s 92 point review.

A great example of a seldom seen variety in Australia, and worth every penny for those exploring the plethora of Italian varieties appearing across the country.

What It Tastes Like

“This hits the spot straight away. Forest berries, liquorice, plenty of spice, slight whiff of smoky bacon and black olives rolled in herb. Medium bodied, fleshy and mouth-filling, but not heavy, with an array of meaty and spicy flavours, and plenty of length – again the olives in herbs. Value plus here. Different and delicious.” - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)
