- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
James Halliday called Tar and Roses "one of the more interesting new arrivals on the Australian winemaking scene", and owners Don Lewis and Narella King have done wonderful things with this Central Victorian brand. Don and Narelle's passion is for Italian (and sometimes spanish) varieties, and this Pinot Grigio has long been one of their most popular wines. Lovely copper colour with fruit-forward flavour, this is just fun to drink and tip top value.
What it Tastes Like
"This tastes like pear-flavoured boiled lollies, only more refreshing and well suited to spicy foods." - Mike Bennie (Sunday Herald Sun)
The grapes were machine harvested, crushed and pressed through an air bag press in the protective presence of SO2. Cold tank fermentation was undertaken at between 10 to 12 degrees celcius. The pressings and free run were fermented separately before being blended back with the free run for fining and cold stabilisation prior to bottling.

About the Producer
Tar & Roses
James Halliday labelled Tar and Roses ‘one of the more interesting new arrivals on the Australian winemaking scene.’ After falling in love with Spanish and Italian varieties while abroad, founders Don Lewis and Narella King returned home a decade ago determined to explore their potential in Victorian. Their eclectic range of wines has received many accolades and are renowned for their value for money.
Heathcote’s reputation is for big Shiraz. And they do it so well. But the times they are a changin’ with Italian varieties such as Fiano, Sangiovese, Nero d’Avola and Sagrantino all finding themselves well at home in the ancient Cambrian soils.
Pinot Gris is a variety that can take on many forms. In one instance it’s crisp, racy and light as in the case of Pinot Grigio, the next it’s round and voluptuous, and sometimes it presents as pinkish or even red! This versatility makes it an incredibly interesting grape. It loves skin contact, it loves lees stirring, it loves anything a winemaker can throw at it, but always it will show lovely perfume, tasty fruit and excellent mouthfeel. It might just be the most underestimated white variety in the country.
