Finding Coonawarra Cabernet to get stuck into young can be tough sometimes. There are some great wines in the region, but usually these wines look best with time to relax in bottle. The Take it to the Grave Cabernet Sauvignon is made to be cracked into immediately. It's ripe and soft and juicy, an approachable style which offers excellent value as a mid-week drink. Campbell Mattinson highly approved of its style when he gave it 91 points and quipped, "If this doesn’t fly off the shelves then something is awfully wrong."
What it Tastes Like
"A different face to Coonawarra cabernet sauvignon. It includes, interestingly enough, 10% shiraz. If this doesn’t fly off the shelves then something is awfully wrong. It’s brilliant drinking and value. Sweet black berries, licorice, menthol and florals. It’s all up front and it all goes down a treat. It’s made to pop and pour in the best of ways. Don’t cellar. Drink now. Done. Sorted." - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

Vineyards: Sourced from a selection of mature vineyards (20 years old) planted on red Terra Rossa soils of Coonawarra (20 years plus). Winemaking: The fruit is partially hand-harvested before de-stemming and cool fermentation in small two tonne open fermenters with regular hand plunging. Matured in seasoned French oak (20% new French) for six months before bottling with minimal filtration and sulphur addition. 2016 Vintage: An outstanding vintage. Excellent, balanced and consistent conditions – warm but crucially not too warm, dry but not too dry, and finally cool Autumn nights that allowed for retention of natural acidity – have led to intensely flavoured and brilliantly balanced fruit with excellent freshness.

About the Producer
Take it to the Grave
Take It To The Grave is a co-op between Sons of Eden’s Corey Ryan and Nick Crampton of Woods Crampton fame. In this range the two are looking for vibrant, youthful wines from premium regions that seriously over-deliver in the value for money stakes. The two bringing every ounce of their considerable experience to bear on what is, whichever way you cut it, a remarkably priced range of wines.
The home of many established and cellar-worthy names, Coonawarra now has some fresh blood making a name for themselves. In a place where Cabernet reigns supreme and with some of the oldest wine growing soils in the country, this region is primed for a renaissence.
Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the truly Nobel grapes. An inherently structural variety, Cabernet when handled gently can produce majestic wines of grace and beauty that mature gloriously with time in the bottle. Australian Cabernet runs the full gamut of style: from lighter, more finely boned versions from regions such as the Yarra Valley, through the exquisitely complex and firm wines of Margaret River to the intensely powerful wines from the Coonawarra, there is much to explore in the world of Australian Cabernet Sauvignon.
