- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
The Snapdragon is 2017 Young Gun of Wine Finalist Vanessa Altmann’s big and juicy take on Viognier from Langhorne Creek.
This is a ripe and juicy wine which screams its variety. A dash of Trebbiano thrown in for a little savoury edge and some skin contact give some textural layers, but at its core, this is a luscious white wine with plenty of personality.
A colourful wine, organically grown, from an enthusiastic young winemaker in top form.
What It Tastes Like
Fleshy, creamy, rich and delicious style of Viognier here. It’s apricoty, peachy, even a hint of pineapple. Nice crisp acidity keeps it from feeling cloying and some phenolic grip lends some textural interest. Ripe and playful. Heaps of flavour. Nice one.
Viognier / Trebbiano (5%), picked in 2 parcels, one drained off, one on skins for 7 days (59% has seven days on skins).
Bottle Size: 750ml
Drink Until: 2019
About the Producer
Vanessa Altmann loves the lost children of Australian wine. She has built her small, colourful label on the back of unloved parcels of fruit from organic vineyards where many assume the region/variety pairing is off the mark. If there’s a Pinot Noir in the Eden Valley, she’ll take it. A Viognier from Langhorne Creek, she’ll make something tasty out of it. Made with as little additions as possible (some wines even preservative free), the Switch wines are a category all of their own.
