- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
Tom Ward continues to mix things up with his small batch _#_ experimental range. This is the first year Tom has taken fruit from his newly leased vineyard in Orange. Having only just taken over the property, he picked a small portion of the Tempranillo from the property and made some trial batches to get a feel for the fruit. The #006, or _'Tempinot'_ as Tom calls it, was born of some experiments with blending. This wine combines the spice and structure of Tempranillo, with the softness and vibrancy of Pinot Noir. An unusual blend, but one that works surprisingly well. As with all of these # wines from Tom, there was only very little made. If you would like to try this innovative little red, don't hesitate.
What it Tastes Like
Purple fruit, meat and spices from the Tempranillo, but the whimsical smells of pretty, young Pinot in there too. Youthful and inviting. The palate is fresh and berry driven, with sweet fruit and savoury tannins. Interesting package all up from Tom. Perfect for the curious wine explorer.

About the Producer
Swinging Bridge is one of Orange’s most exciting boutique producers. Owned by Tom Ward, who also heads up the New South Wales Wine Association, they are pumping out some fantastic cool climate wines, that all punch well above their weight.
The wine scene in Orange is alive and kicking. With each vintage that passes the bar of quality is raised again and again. Pinot Noir is a potential champion for the region but for now Shiraz, Chardonnay, Riesling and Cabernet are the flag bearers. The cool climate and the high altitude vineyards are producing wines of finesse and class and there is some ripping value to be had in this region.
Tempranillo is a hot-blooded Spanish variety that has found a happy home in many Australian wine regions. Typically, Tempranillo will be medium bodied, showing silky darker fruits and tannins riddled with exotic spices. The wines are more-ish and incredibly well suited to alfresco Australian dining. Unsurprisingly, Tempranillo is one of the country’s most popular emerging varieties and is set to have a big future on Australian shores.
