- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
The Spinifex Rosé has become one of Australia’s benchmark examples over the years and it’s easy to see why. Peter treats the wine seriously, intentionally picking the various fruit components from vineyards up to 100 years of age and blending meticulously for his final product.
The unique blend of Grenache, Cinsault, Mataro and Ugni Blanc adds so much depth and interest, and with the application of lees stirring, 10% oak and partial malolactic fermentation in the winemaking process it has plenty of texture and complexity without sacrificing any of the style’s aromatics and freshness.
Gary Walsh rated the 2016 vintage 94 points, calling it “a thirst quenching beauty through and through.” This is a gorgeous wine, and without question one of the country’s finest Rosés from one of its most innovative artisan producers.
What It Tastes Like
“Cherry, rosehip, and a dusting of fennel, spice and earth. Medium bodied, dry and almost chalky in texture, with redcurrant and cherry, delivered in savoury style. Acidity lends a bit of crunch, and gee, it’s a thirst quenching beauty through and through. Tops.” - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

About the Producer
Spinifex is one of the undercover jewels of the Barossa Valley. Husband and wife team Peter Schell & Magali Gely have extensive experience in southern France, which proves the inspiration for their unique wines made from predominantly Rhone varietals.
Spinifex was on the front line of the new wave of Barossa producers. Peter’s wines brought a new sensibility to the region, they were lower in alcohol, concentrated but elegant, and balanced to perfection. He takes the art of blending into the realm of the virtuoso. There are few wineries who deliver refinement and poise from the Barossa Valley like Spinifex.
The Barossa has a big reputation. Big in every sense of the word. Known for producing blockbusting examples of impenetrable old vine Shiraz and Grenache envied by much of the world, it is a region that should be celebrated as the region that first put Australian wine on the map. Now, with a new generation of winemakers reinventing the region, there’s more than just power in the Barossa’s bag of tricks. With a move toward picking earlier and pulling back on oak maturation, there’s a fresher, more subtle side to Barossa wine which offers plenty to the modern Australian wine lover.
Grenache is the great sleeping giant of Australian red wine. We are the custodians of the oldest producing Grenache vines in the world, some ancient vineyards planted as far back as the 1850’s. Modern Australian Grenache is a different beast to the wines of yesteryear, they are more youthful and vibrant, showing bright red fruit characters, silky tannins and a delicious array of spices. With the viticultural resources we have at our disposal in this country, Australia can be one of the world’s leading producers of this variety, making wines that easily rival the best of Europe.
