- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
This is regarded by many as Australia’s most cellar-worthy blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon.
Owner/vigneron Barry Morey makes this in a traditional way, utilising skin contact, 100% barrel ferment and ageing on lees to give extra dimensions to this classic white coupling.
This wine drinks beautifully from the day it is released, but with time in bottle comes more chapters to the story. There is plenty that lay ahead for the delicious 2016. Whichever way you look at it, this is excellent value.
What It Tastes Like
“The nose of the 2016 Sauvignon Blanc/ Semillon is enticing with fruits of guava and gooseberries with a hint of freshly mown hay. The palate is a combination of these with citrus and minerality combined creating a good long mouth feel with balanced acidity.” - Barry Morey
This wine comprises of 80% Sauvignon Blanc and 20% Semillon. Most of the Sauvignon Blanc fruit had 8 hours skin contact prior to pressing. The Semillon component is crushed and pressed immediately after picking. This wine was 100% barrel fermented with predominantly larger barrels used. All went through natural yeast fermentation. The extended lees contact helps fill out the middle palate and gives this wine the extra dimension it is known for.

About the Producer
Barry and Jan Morey planted their stunning Beechworth vineyard in 1986. Their first release in 1989 began the Sorrenberg story, a story destined to be one of Australia’s great estates. Barry farms with adherence to biodynamics, believing this to be the best way to get the most out of his home block of 2.4 Ha. on the outskirts of Beechworth.
Their wines are famous for their balance and longevity. The wines are made in traditional fashion, with wild yeasts for fermentation, gentle oak maturation and basket pressing for each wine. The Gamay is their most sought after wine, however, the thumbprint of Barry’s attention to detail is stamped across each release.
Sorrenberg is one of the true gems of Beechworth, and indeed Australian, wine.
Beechworth is a small wine producing region with a big reputation. The distinctive terroir in this part of the country produces some of our most iconic wines. If you want serious Chardonnay or Rhone-inspired Shiraz/Syrah, you want to get to know Beechworth. Some of the most powerful cool climate wines in the country hail from here, and some of our future stars are making it their home. The future looks very bright for this champion Victorian region.
