About The Wine
Some of the biggest names in the “Next Gen” Barossa wine scene have been getting fruit from Wayne and Suzi for years. Tom Shobbrooke, Taras Ochota, Peter Schell of Spinifex; guys at the top of their game and they know good fruit when they see it.
Over the last few years, the Smallfry team have been holding onto some of their own fruit to start making small amounts of their own wines, and the juice they are churning out is brilliant. Case in point is their 2016 Rosé - this is one of the most delightful Rosé wines we have come across in a while.
Made from Cinsault, Grenache and “just a lick of Mataro“, this trumpets the friendliness of natural wines to all those that will hear it.
What It Tastes Like
Orange peel, ginger, sweet macerated cherries and cardamon pods. This smells brilliant! The palate is alive with a creamy bed of sweet red berries, slick cleansing acidity and a whisper of glossy tannin. Yum. No, seriously, this is insanely delicious.
90 points. “This is a cloudy rose. It’s not your standard fare. It has energy but it feels relaxed. It’s spicy and strawberried with red apple, fresh fennel, yeast and sordid blossomy notes. It has interest and plenty of it, but mostly it’s a guzzling style.”
