About

Coriole winemaker Alex Sherrah is stepping out on his own with his new eponymous label. The theme of the first releases is clear: interesting medium bodied wines that showcase the changing face of modern McLaren Vale wine.

The Sherrah Red ed Al. is a blend of Grenache, Shiraz and, Nero d’Avola born from the soils of McLaren Vale.

It’s a tweak on the classic GSM blend the region does so well. Cheery red fruit from the Grenache, a plummy centre from the Shiraz and an aromatic lift coming from the Nero d’Avola, the blend is spot on.

Gary Walsh rated it 92+ points concluding, “Great drinking here, and while good young, may have a bit more up its sleeve with a couple of years in bottle.”

Only 130 dozen made.

What It Tastes Like

“McLaren Vale has reinvented itself over the last number of years, putting out medium bodied reds that combine ease of drinking with a fair bit of interest. So with that in mind, here’s another good example to add to that list. Raspberry, blackberry, black jelly beans, iron filings and a sweet herbal/floral perfume. Medium bodied, juicy and bright, with a dusting of metaphoric coal or similar, adding an earthy dimension, fine grained emery tannin, fresh berry acidity, and an iron-laced fresh berried finish of satisfying length. Great drinking here, and while good young, may have a bit more up its sleeve with a couple of years in bottle.” - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)
