As James Halliday noted in his recent review of the 2016 Shaw + Smith Sauvignon Blanc, this wine has long been "...accepted as the benchmark for Adelaide Hills sauvignon blanc". It's the wine that threw down the gauntlet to the flood of NZ Sauvignon Blanc that was (and still is) sweeping across Australia. Perhaps the most impressive thing about this wine is its consistency. For almost two decades it has set the bar for all Australian Sauvignon producers, and the excellent 2016 release from star winemaker Adam Wadewitz is yet another feather in its cap taking away the Trophy for Best Sauvignon Blanc at the 2016 Adelaide Hills Wine Show.

What it Tastes Like

"For long accepted as the benchmark for Adelaide Hills sauvignon blanc, and you don't have to go past the bouquet to figure out why: just about every tropical fruit you can imagine is on display from custard apple at one extreme, kiwi fruit and green pineapple at the other (Michael Hill-Smith rejects gooseberry on the basis this means cape gooseberry, rarely encountered in Australia). It all adds up to a complete wine made to be enjoyed until the queue forms for the next release." - James Halliday (Australian Wine Companion)
