- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
Steve Pannell may be better known for his reds, but this Sauvignon Blanc remains one of the country's finest examples of this colossus of a grape. Sourcing fruit from the variety's Australian home in the Adelaide Hills, this is pure fruited, surprisingly complex and with impeccable balance. It's great with food, and whether you're a Sauv Blanc lover or hater this is just a mighty fine white wine.
What it Tastes Like
The nose is really perfumed without being pungent, with aromas of grapefruit and cut grass. The palate is delicious - long and fine but with good depth and oodles of flavour. Super balance with length - one of my favourite Aussie Sauv Blancs.
2015 vintage: 95 points. "Hand-picked and sorted, free-run juice cool-fermented in tank. There is a subliminal savoury edge to the bouquet and palate, possibly from more than one yeast at work, and also to crisp, crunchy acidity. You pick up the extra level of flavour from ripe (not overripe) fruit on the back-palate and finish. Has the X-factor many sauvignon blancs lack." - James Halliday (Australian Wine Companion)
“This is a cracking Adelaide Hills savvy with off the chart acidity!” Aromatics: 4.5 / 5 Profile: guava, passionfruit, pink grapefruit, white currant Body: light to medium Acidity: 4.5 / 5 Texture: balanced, crisp with lightness and zip. Goes with: oysters in nam jim sauce, salt & pepper squid, sashimi. Drink: now until 2019 Listen to: Everything's Gone Green - New Order

About the Producer
Quite simply, Steven Pannell is one of Australia’s finest and most imaginative winemakers. He’s a Jimmy Watson Trophy winner, a McLaren Vale Bushing King winner, a two-time Max Schubert Trophy winner, International Red Winemaker of the Year and Decanter Magazine’s 50 Most Influential Contributors to the World of Wine. Nick Stock described him as potentially “one of the greatest Australian winemakers ever to make wines in our age”.
Steve’s wines are made with modern Australian food and wine culture at the front of mind. The wines, such as his lauded Tempranillo Touriga blend, defy convention but place freshness and versatility front and centre. He is truly one of the most forward thinking and inspirational Australian winemakers alive today.
The Adelaide Hills may be the most energised wine region in the country. The sense of exploration and creativity amongst the tribe of talented young winemakers in this region is unparralelled. The Hills has become crucible of Australian wine talent, offering an array of varieties, from classics such as Shiraz, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, to new varieties like Nebbiolo and Grüner Veltliner for the younger generation to play with. Every vintage brings new colour and complexity to the rich wine, food and produce culture of this cool climate region.
