The Label: The dictionary definition of ‘Riposte’ (pronounced rip-posst) is comeback, reply, retort, or in the context of the sport of fencing a quick counter stroke. After over a decade of confusion about his name ‘Riposte’ was chosen as an appropriate name for a ‘comeback label’ by Tim Knappstein.
The Sword Name: ‘Dagger’ A short knifelike weapon with pointed double- edged blade. It was worn primarily for self protection but some types with long hand guards were used while sword fighting. These were held in the left hand while a sword was wielded with the right.
The Wine: Lush dark berry fruit with striking floral edges combine on the nose of the 2012 Dagger Pinot Noir to create a fresh yet complex attack on the senses. Lifted rich fruit and spice parry along the palate to a finish of fine-grained tannin and bright acidity.
The Dagger has been honed to create a vibrant, rich, earlier drinking wine displaying all of the hallmark aromas and flavours of Pinot Noir.

About the Producer
Tim Knappstein is a South Australian winemaking legend. After years at the helm of the successful Knappstein label, he established a new, smaller Adelaide Hills venture under his own name. His wines are all named after different swords, daggers or knives (a reference to his ‘riposte’ at the bigger industry players), and more importantly are all about balance and vibrancy of flavour. As James Halliday declares “the prices for almost all of the wines are astonishingly low”.

The Hills has become crucible of Australian wine talent, offering an array of varieties, from classics such as Shiraz, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, to new varieties like Nebbiolo and Grüner Veltliner for the younger generation to play with. Every vintage brings new colour and complexity to the rich wine, food and produce culture of this cool climate region.
