About

The Ravensworth Shiraz Viognier has become one of the most sought after wines in Canberra, owner/winemaker Bryan Martin now consistently producing a wine of glorious complexity from his home grown fruit. Bryan's Shiraz is Northern Rhone Valley inspired, with a splash of co-fermented Viognier adding perfume and mouthfeel to what is a remarkable Shiraz. Given Bryan Martin's day-job as assistant winemaker at Clonakilla where he, alongside Tim Kirk, produces Australia's foremost Shiraz Viognier, it comes as no surprise to see this wine reach such great heights. The 2016 looks sensational once again. As Bryan says, "I was impressed with the texture too, it's probably not so full of floral perfume - but it's darker, more brooding than last years." which is good news for all who've tracked this wine's trajectory. It received 95 points from Mike Bennie, and if you fancy your cool climate Shiraz then this is simply a must for your cellar and/or dinner table. Exceptional value.

What it Tastes Like

"Beautiful, delicious wine this. Silken texture, tightly wound but with a give of mouthwatering fruit flavour and incredible, harem-like perfume of pot pourri, fangipani, red fruits, incense and garam masala spice. That texture, whoa, Canberra District’s greatest ally when shiraz (with or without viognier) is on song – sleek, sheathed in finest lacy tannins, long and so fine. It’s joyous in fruit expression but shows savoury, spicy detail and finishes with a floral, pretty mouth perfume that lingers. So good." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)
