- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
If you love your reds bright, fresh and gluggable then you'll adore this. The 2016 Ravensworth Tinto is a blend of Grenache, Tempranillo, Mataro and Cinsault, all the varieties baring their Spanish names hilariously on the label. From what Martin describes as an "awesome year of perfect conditions" in 2016, the fruit was picked with acid at front of mind, wild-fermented as whole berries, left on skins for 2 weeks and then pressed into 5-year-old, neutral barriques. The wine is about freshness and balance, easy drinking with some structure and interest and Martin nails the brief. In his glowing 93 point review, Mike Bennie really hit it on the head: "So easy to drink, finely structured, pitch perfect wine for versatility of drinking occasions." It's a joyous red wine and another massive win for Bryan Martin and Ravensworth.
What it Tastes Like
"Blood plums, blood sausage, cinnamon and clove spice, red cherries pickled and fresh – wafty, lush perfume. Vibrant bouquet. Soft and gently sweet-sour to taste. Crunchy textured, the wine runs Doppler effect through the palate with peppery spice, crisp red cherry and pomegranate flavours, raised on brisk acidity. So easy to drink, finely structured, pitch perfect wine for versatility of drinking occasions." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

About the Producer
Bryan Martin is a winemaker at the height of his powers. Setting aside the exceptional work he is doing behind the scenes at regional flagbearer, Clonakilla, his Ravensworth wines have become some of the Canberra region’s hottest releases. Bryan’s winemaking style is equal parts science and artistic flair. He’s an adventurous spirit trapped in the body of a technical virtuoso. A concert pianist jamming to free jazz. It’s a killer combination. His range is full of alternative varieties and whacky blends, with texture and balance the key in everything. Truly unique wines from a region on the up and up and some of Canberra’s most sort after wines.
Canberra. A mountain of potential. A sleeping giant of Australian wine. The ability of this region to produce world class wines in only a relatively short history is almost second to none in the whole country. We have some absolute geniuses to thank for developing this region. People have taken notice. Canberra wine is some serious gear. With the ability to produce everything from perfumed and tightly wound Syrah, to razor sharp Riesling and a bunch of emerging varieties in the ground excelling, Canberra will be one of the ‘must watch’ wine producing regions in Australia for many years to come.
Grenache is the great sleeping giant of Australian red wine. We are the custodians of the oldest producing Grenache vines in the world, some ancient vineyards planted as far back as the 1850’s. Modern Australian Grenache is a different beast to the wines of yesteryear, they are more youthful and vibrant, showing bright red fruit characters, silky tannins and a delicious array of spices. With the viticultural resources we have at our disposal in this country, Australia can be one of the world’s leading producers of this variety, making wines that easily rival the best of Europe.
