Tim Shand’s wines at Punt Road have become a known as some of the best value you are likely to find in the Yarra Valley.
Here we have 100% estate grown Chardonnay, aged in 20% new oak, from a ripe and generous Yarra season in 2016.
Tim’s aim with this wine is to give plenty of Chardonnay pleasure without asking a hefty price tag. The flavours are ripe, there is ample support from the oak. It’s a great value Chardonnay for those who like a slightly rounder style from the Yarra Valley.
What It Tastes Like
Ripe melons, custard apple, a dab of peaches and cream. It’s a round and friendly style, built for easy drinking when you want a Chardonnay that tastes like Chardonnay. Another good value release from Tim and the team.

The earliness of vintage 2016 was largely climatic, but a bit lunar as well. The flowering of the vines occurred during a very warm, dry spell – perfect conditions for an even fruit set. Those conditions endured throughout Christmas and into January. We had just enough rainfall (in two big events) to squeak us through – but it was touch and go there for a while. The early Easter (the first full moon after the vernal equinox being late March) reminds us that nature takes its cues from the moon – and will not be argued with!
