- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
If you are on the hunt for the best value bubblies in the country right now, you should be drinking Prosecco. And if you want the best Prosecco fruit in the country, you need to go to the King Valley, which is precisely what La Prova winemaker Sam Scott has done for this release. This Prosecco offers insane levels of refreshment. For sparkling made in the traditional French method, you would be spending a lot more than $25 to find a wine of this sort of class. This is the complete package and precisely the kind of dry, 'serious' Prosecco is going to be ridiculously popular with the most clued up Australian drinkers over the festive season.
What it Tastes Like
Green apples and apple blossom notes smells a little sea breezy too. It’s clean and tastes of lemons and their skins with teeniest tug of grip. Nice fizz too, gently creamy in the mouth but with some cleansing, zingy acid. Set up on a deck with a good view and just watch this get demolished.
90 points "Flowers, pear, honey biscuits. Light, pear and spice, a little chalkiness and sweetness, fine bubbles and a fluffy gently saline finish. Tasty. On the money." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)
Grown by the Myrkel family. Red volcanic soils and 600m elevation on the western ridge of Australia’s spiritual home of Prosecco, the alpine King Valley. This Prosecco had a slow, cool primary fermentation to capture the bright, and subtle varietal characters. Secondary fermentation, the one where you get the bubbles, was performed in the charmat method (in a pressurized tank) and bottled with a dosage of 9 grams per litre residual sugar.
Bottle Size: 750ml
About the Producer
Sam Scott has a clear vision for his Scott and La Prova labels - Italian inspired wines done with an Australian sensibility. Utilising his retail, winemaking and viticultural experience, he has crafted a range of interesting, charming wines that always over-deliver in the value-for-money stakes. He is taking the Adelaide Hills by storm and as James Halliday noted, “Scott is a star in the making.”
The wine history of the King Valley is fascinating. What started as primarily tobacco farms run by Italian families transitioned to vineyards sporting Italian varieties. If you are hunting Sangiovese, Vermentino, Prosseco or aromatic whites like Riesling or Pinot Grigio, King Valley has a rich history with these varieties and, in many cases, multiple generations worth of history making and growing them. The intimate knowledge these winemakers have of their region and vines has seen the quality of King Valley wine improve year after year.
