This Aglianico Rosato will be the perfect accompaniment to many-a-picnic this Summer.
The fruit is grown in Kersbrook, Adelaide Hills, specifically for the purposes of producing Rosato.
It has a beautiful colour and is wonderfully aromatic; it almost feels like it’s batting its eyes at you from the glass. As the Rosato/Rosé revolution marches on it Australia, it’s wines like this, from interesting varieties that are really cutting through.
Complex, cheeky and impossible not to love, the La Prova Rosato should be on the hit-list of any fan of interesting and classy pink wines.
What It Tastes Like
Have it cold and it’s all cherry blossom, cinnamon notes and a wicked kick of turkish delight and rose water. As it warms up, some of the creamier characters start to shine with a soft pomegranate and and savoury herbal feel. It’s pretty complex if you feel like looking deeper into it but if you just want some easy drinking fun, it’s on point for that too.
92 points “This is great summer drinking. It’s dry and crunchy with a kind of white pepper texture, redcurrant and roses with maybe a little spice and mint. Acidity is lively but settled, and there’s definitely a stony kind of thing going on here too. Hits the spot.”
- Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)
Aglianico, native to Campania in Italy, is grown here on pretty much my favourite bit of dirt at Kersbrook, in the northern Adelaide Hills. Kersbrook is one of the warmest parts of the Hills and so lends itself to these Southern Italian varieties so well. Grown and picked early specifically to make Rosato.
Its only skin contact is during the truck ride to the winery and is pressed out quickly with about 20% of the juice diverted straight off the press tray for a high solids, wild ferment component in old French oak, which adds some extra texture and the remaining to tank for a cool fermentation to capture the fine aromatics.
Closure: Screw Cap
Bottle Size: 750ml
About the Producer
Sam Scott has a clear vision for his Scott and La Prova labels - Italian inspired wines done with an Australian sensibility. Utilising his retail, winemaking and viticultural experience, he has crafted a range of interesting, charming wines that always over-deliver in the value-for-money stakes. He is taking the Adelaide Hills by storm and as James Halliday noted, “Scott is a star in the making.”
The Adelaide Hills may be the most energised wine region in the country. The sense of exploration and creativity amongst the tribe of talented young winemakers in this region is unparralelled. The Hills has become crucible of Australian wine talent, offering an array of varieties, from classics such as Shiraz, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, to new varieties like Nebbiolo and Grüner Veltliner for the younger generation to play with. Every vintage brings new colour and complexity to the rich wine, food and produce culture of this cool climate region.
