There's no pretence around the wines of Alistair Reed and Sam Cook. This is meant to be a fun-loving, don't-take-yourself-so-seriously kind of red, but there's a little more under the hood when you take a closer look. The aim here was to make a red wine with zero (added) sulpur which they achieved. It's an unusual blend of grapes, Shiraz and Tempranillo sharing the majority of the bandwidth, with Nebbiolo and Semillon chiming in also. This is the kind of red that doesn't mind a chill. It's meant to be drunk young and with plenty of gusto. Sub Zero's finishing moves to the from the video game Mortal Kobat are printed on the label in case you find yourself gaming while having a glass of red. Which, given this wine's slurpable nature, seems like just the right time and place to crack it.

What it Tastes Like

"Bright perfume shows rose water, blackcurrant jubes, black jellybean scents and a good dusting of earthy spice and greenery from briar and herbs. It’s crunch, crunch, crunch in the palate with a slosh of sweet fruit and sprigs of saltbush and other earthy herbs. Zigs and zags of acidity keep the wine blistering fresh, and though the wine is styled as vin de soif, there’s layers of flavour and texture to satisfy a nerdier approach to each glass. That being said, it’s for skolling, thoroughly. Drink like a lush." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)
