- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
This utterly delicious Tempranillo comes from Jericho - a terrific little family-owned-and-run Adelaide Hills producer that is making waves. The Jericho wines are all made in small quantities, with varietal character, balance and approachability the key.
93 points from Campbell Mattinson who wrote, “Talk about nailing the brief. This is tip top gorgeous to drink. “ The Jericho Tempranillo is rapidly becoming one of the ‘go-to’ wines in the modern, fresh medium bodied style. As versatile as it is delicious, this is seriously good value.
What It Tastes Like
“Talk about nailing the brief. This is tip top gorgeous to drink. It’s succulent, fruity, splashed with spice and well formed through the finish. It’s the best of many worlds. It talks with a fruit-laden tongue but also uses reduction to a positive effect. It’s effectively the perfect ‘drink young’ wine.” - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

About the Producer
Jericho is one of the most exciting emerging producers in South Australia. Family owned and run with experienced winemaker Neil Jericho at the helm, they source both traditional and alternative varieties from various vineyards around McLaren Vale and the Adelaide Hills. Neil sums up the Jericho philosophy: “in every wine I like to see varietal flavour and character. I don’t want to overpower the fruit with oak. It’s got to be in balance, with nothing sticking out. They’ve got to be drinkable!” Delicious, creative wines and sensational value.
The Adelaide Hills may be the most energised wine region in the country. The sense of exploration and creativity amongst the tribe of talented young winemakers in this region is unparralelled. The Hills has become crucible of Australian wine talent, offering an array of varieties, from classics such as Shiraz, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, to new varieties like Nebbiolo and Grüner Veltliner for the younger generation to play with. Every vintage brings new colour and complexity to the rich wine, food and produce culture of this cool climate region.
Tempranillo is a hot-blooded Spanish variety that has found a happy home in many Australian wine regions. Typically, Tempranillo will be medium bodied, showing silky darker fruits and tannins riddled with exotic spices. The wines are more-ish and incredibly well suited to alfresco Australian dining. Unsurprisingly, Tempranillo is one of the country’s most popular emerging varieties and is set to have a big future on Australian shores.
