- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
Another spot on Fiano here from one of South Australia's brightest emerging producers - Jericho. We've seen some outstanding Fianos from McLaren Vale, Riverland and even Clare Valley, but the Adelaide Hills has enormous potential with the Italian variety as well. This comes from Kuitpo in the southern end of the Hills, closer to McLaren Vale where, as Neil Jericho explained to us, the later ripening conditions really suit Fiano. If you're looking for a versatile, introductory Fiano to try you could hardly do better than this. _Textural, full-flavoured yet fresh as a daisy_ - it's a lovely, well-balanced wine.
What it Tastes Like
"Light and fresh-feeling, white pear and marzipan, twist of bitterness through the finish. I could stop there, but you’d miss hearing how the perfume is floral, bright with fresh cut pear and nectarine, a touch nutty-savoury too. Just delicious drinking. Ipso, should be in your fridge by now." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)
94 points "Made strictly adhering to the KISS principle: crushed, pressed, cool-fermented in stainless steel, bottled. The haunting bouquet of field flowers and spices introduces a palate with a mix of lemon/lemon zest, pear and apple flavours within the carapace of textured power that is the mark of fiano." - James Halliday (Australian Wine Companion) 92 points "I like the cut of Jericho’s jib. Stylish packaging, interesting wines, erring on the fresh and pure side of winemaking, this one is from the Adelaide Hills and fiano grape here. Light and fresh-feeling, white pear and marzipan, twist of bitterness through the finish. I could stop there, but you’d miss hearing how the perfume is floral, bright with fresh cut pear and nectarine, a touch nutty-savoury too. Just delicious drinking. Ipso, should be in your fridge by now." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)
Lovely aromatics of fresh stone fruit and fresh herbs. On the palate; freshly cut stone fruit of apricots and peaches with a touch of melon and lime juice with lovely structure and texture in the mouth. The wine finishes with a lovely texture and fresh acid balance. The palate is fresh and rich - stone fruits and citrus with clean, crisp acidity. A wine with this level of texture and palate weight enables it to match a wide range of food and dishes; from richer seafood dishes such as salmon and cream based pasta dishes, to lighter meat dishes such as roast pork belly.

About the Producer
Jericho is one of the most exciting emerging producers in South Australia. Family owned and run with experienced winemaker Neil Jericho at the helm, they source both traditional and alternative varieties from various vineyards around McLaren Vale and the Adelaide Hills. Neil sums up the Jericho philosophy: “in every wine I like to see varietal flavour and character. I don’t want to overpower the fruit with oak. It’s got to be in balance, with nothing sticking out. They’ve got to be drinkable!” Delicious, creative wines and sensational value.
The Adelaide Hills may be the most energised wine region in the country. The sense of exploration and creativity amongst the tribe of talented young winemakers in this region is unparralelled. The Hills has become crucible of Australian wine talent, offering an array of varieties, from classics such as Shiraz, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, to new varieties like Nebbiolo and Grüner Veltliner for the younger generation to play with. Every vintage brings new colour and complexity to the rich wine, food and produce culture of this cool climate region.
Fiano is one of the most promising emerging white varieties in Australia. It’s a variety that likes to be warm and dry, exactly the kind of variety that is perfectly sustainable in Australia. Characterised by fresh fruit flavours, refreshing acidity and a lovely, slightly waxy mouthfeel, Fiano is a variety that is prospering across the country. It makes a great alternative to Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Gris which is far better suited to the Australian climate.
