There's no doubt about it, the Jamsheed wines are amongst the most exciting in the country. Thrilling, authentic wines packed with personality. Syrah is what Gary hangs his hat on, but his Roussanne is one of the country's best. It comes from the Warner vineyard that is famously used by Giaconda in the Northern Victorian cool climate region of Beechworth, and it receives the full box and dice. Whole bunch pressed, wild yeasts, old large format French oak, lees stirring - all doing their bit to add body and texture to the wine. Gary's been picking this wine earlier and retaining great natural acidity, meaning that despite all of its texture and body it remains fresh and vibrant. If you're into your Chardonnays and other full-bodied whites then this will be right up your alley. It's wonderful.
What it Tastes Like
The nose really jumps out at you, with aromas of peaches, melons, honey, minerals and spice. It nails that balance between luscious texture and natural acidity, with more of a mineral edge than in last year's rendition. It's round and utterly mouthfilling, with layers of stone fruits, buttery texture and cleansing acidity all doing their bit. So much going on yet so easy to drink. Love it!
Handpicked from the Warner Vineyard in Beechworth, three hours north of Melbourne. The vineyard is situated in the foothills of the Alpine Valley of Victoria and is composed of granitic-loam over clay and areas of slate and shale. The Roussanne is handpicked, whole bunch pressed and racked with full solids into older 800 and 500 litre French oak, fermented with indigenous yeasts and left sur lees for 8 months. Alc/vol 13.2%

With a specific focus on the regional differences in Victorian Syrah for his Jamsheed range, Gary has been one of the loudest advocates for the inclusion of whole bunch ferments and was ahead of the curve in creating minimal intervention wines that naturally convey the characteristics of their respective vineyards. Wild, electric and a little left of centre, Jamsheed is one of the Victoria’s most compelling producers.
Beechworth is a small wine producing region with a big reputation. The distinctive terroir in this part of the country produces some of our most iconic wines.
