- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
This is one of the best ‘BBQ reds’ you are going to find from the Barossa Valley.
It’s a wine that winemaker Alex Head wants to change people’s ideas about what the Barossa is all about.
The 2016 combines Pinot Noir, Montepulciano and Touriga into a moreish, modern Australian red ready for the guzzling. It’s seen barely a whisper of oak, relying on the fruit freshness from a high elevation to take the fore.
It’s bright and loves a chill in the fridge - a different beast to last year but delicious little bargain none-the-less.
What It Tastes Like
Puff of red berries and chocolate. Pretty and herbal, not at all the things you think of from the Barossa. Pinot with a bit of guts and game. Light in body, crisp and clean in flow. Smooth tannin and a fresh finish laced with herbs and a lick of game. Interesting wine but without loosing drinkability. 20 mins in the fridge would work a treat.
93 points & special value star. “A wine bursting with drinkability, the sappy crunch of pinot noir plays a soulful and giddy melody with the more brooding coven of montepulciano and touriga - a confluence of dark cherry, some medicinal sass and an aromatic beam of violet. Following gentle hand plunging and pumpovers across a two-week fermentation, the wine saw a smidgeon of 10% older oak. In all, gentle, yet suitably tactile and pliant to mitigate Barossa’s sweetness.”
- Ned Goodwin (Australian Wine Companion)

About the Producer
Alex Head has had what you might call a meteoric rise through the Australian wine industry. In his short career as a producer he has been heralded as one of the best Young Gun Winemakers, not only in the Barossa but the whole country. With no formal training as a winemaker, the purity and balance inherent in the wines are amazing.
Alex has a passion for the old vineyards that populate the Barossa. With a keen eye for a good site, Alex has put together a formidable portfolio of vineyards which produce simply outstanding renditions of Shiraz and Grenache year-in, year-out.
The Barossa has a big reputation. Big in every sense of the word. Known for producing blockbusting examples of impenetrable old vine Shiraz and Grenache envied by much of the world, it is a region that should be celebrated as the region that first put Australian wine on the map. Now, with a new generation of winemakers reinventing the region, there’s more than just power in the Barossa’s bag of tricks. With a move toward picking earlier and pulling back on oak maturation, there’s a fresher, more subtle side to Barossa wine which offers plenty to the modern Australian wine lover.
