The Harvest Syrah is part of Brendan and Laura Carter’s co-operative with local growers - a partnership rather than a buyer/supplier relationship. Helping each other out and splitting the rewards. It’s a very cool idea.

What It Tastes Like
Syrah it is. Light, sleek and perfumed - all blue fruit, redskins, and white pepper finish. Soft, cuddly, slurpy, talcum-powder tannins. Uber modern. Nouveau Syrah territory and super tasty to drink.
From one of the more elevated and exposed areas in Birdwood, Northern Adelaide Hills - a fine balance of clay, granite and scattered quartz lend the ability for Syrah to achieve a firm structure with an elegance of fruit that’s incredibly alluring. This medium-bodied example exemplifies readily approachable and easy-drinking Syrah from the Northern Adelaide Hills.

About the Producer
Unico Zelo is the project of winemaking couple Brendan and Laura Carter. In their words, their aim is to create “Italian-inspired, textural and site-expressive wines” and “Australian examples of Mediterranean varieties in an approachable and jovial fashion.”
Since bursting onto the scene in 2014 with their eye-catching, outrageously good value alternative vino, the Carters have spread their wings and their range. They now make a large suite of wines, including single vineyard examples of Fiano, Nero d’Avola and Nebbiolo. They are one of the most dynamic winemaking duos in the Adelaide Hills.
The Adelaide Hills may be the most energised wine region in the country. The sense of exploration and creativity amongst the tribe of talented young winemakers in this region is unparralelled. The Hills has become crucible of Australian wine talent, offering an array of varieties, from classics such as Shiraz, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, to new varieties like Nebbiolo and Grüner Veltliner for the younger generation to play with. Every vintage brings new colour and complexity to the rich wine, food and produce culture of this cool climate region.
Long held up to the rest of the world as Australia’s flagship red variety, the mighty Australian Shiraz has undergone something of a renaissance over the past two decades. While our robust styles of Shiraz from powerhouse South Australian regions such as the Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale may have put Australian wine on the map, Shiraz from our cooler regions are giving the variety a new look. Wines from Canberra, all parts of Victoria, the Adelaide Hills, and the Great Southern, are all delivering wines of finesse and spice set to a lighter framework. The tapestry of Australian Shiraz is richly diverse, and will only continue to develop and mature into the future.
