- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
David Geyer is challenging some of the traditions of the Barossa Valley, giving a second life to some of the neglected sites across the region. The varieties he’s playing with aren’t exactly mainstream but they are all universally delicious.
This is a ripe and juicy version of Cabernet Franc - fresh from 25-year-old vines in the Vine Vale region.
Only old oak, next to no additions, it’s all about letting the site express itself for Dave, in this case, that expression is a seriously slurpable red with bucket loads of flavour. Barossa richness married to an aromatic variety, it’s a winning combination.
What It Tastes Like
Ripe mulberries, red and black currant, tomato leaf, It’s varietal but it has the Barossa ripeness which is a big part of its personality. It’s plump and friendly in style. Fine sheets of tannin tug at the sides of sweet fruit. It’s a slick, velvety ride. It’s playful, smashable, and a little more cuddly than the crisp and crunchy Cab Franc’s out there nowadays.
25 year old vines flourishing in the sands of Vine Vale, picked at premium ripeness, destemmed and naturally fermented on skins for 10 days and hand plunged with minimal additions. Pressed straight to old, large format oak and left to age for 6 months before hand bottling. 14.5% Alcohol
Bottle Size: 750ml

About the Producer
Geyer Wine Co.
David Geyer is challenging some of the traditions of the Barossa Valley, giving a second life to some of the neglected sites across the region and playing with varieties that aren’t exactly mainstream but are all universally delicious. He makes wines as naturally as possible, always striving for drinkability and charisma in some of these unsung hero varieties of the region.
The Barossa has a big reputation. Big in every sense of the word. Known for producing blockbusting examples of impenetrable old vine Shiraz and Grenache envied by much of the world, it is a region that should be celebrated as the region that first put Australian wine on the map. Now, with a new generation of winemakers reinventing the region, there’s more than just power in the Barossa’s bag of tricks. With a move toward picking earlier and pulling back on oak maturation, there’s a fresher, more subtle side to Barossa wine which offers plenty to the modern Australian wine lover.
C’Franc, as it is affectionately know, is often one of the more overlooked varieties from the Bordeaux region. Traditionally used as mainly a blending variety, this grape has been experiencing somewhat of a reinvigoration lately as more and more producers recognise its potential to create highly aromatic, crunchy and delectable reds in its own right.
