- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
A brand new wine here from Gareth Belton, and one of his grooviest reds to date.
The Gentle Folk Positive Vibrations is a Pinot Noir from the couple’s Scary Gully vineyard in the Adelaide Hills.
To supercharge the aromatics (like Pinot needs it!), Gareth has added a splash of skin contact Gewurztraminer to really take the perfume to another level and it has worked a treat. This is the very definition of a Summer red. Gareth has called it, “Potentially our favourite wine we have made so far on this journey.”
Light and airy with a whimsical feel, red wines don’t get much more fun to drink than this!
What It Tastes Like
Geez this smells good. Berries flying at warpspeed. Smells so fresh and friendly. Bright bubbly berries, grape bubblegum, cherry and undergrowth. Sappy twigs. Spice. It’s such a thirst crushing style. You glug this, you don’t sip. Whips through the mouth with ribbons of fine, crunchy tannin in toe. Clean as a whistle. Give it a little chill and this might just be the perfect afternoon red.
92 points. “Pinot noir and gewurztraminer, and they said ‘never the twain shall meet’. Van Gogh painted landscapes with oblique colours, right? Ambitious, but considered wine here via the intellect of winemaker Gareth Belton. From Scary Gully vineyard in Forest Range. Tasted at festival on a cricket oval under a teepee in Basket Range, of course.
Peppery, pretty, rose petal and red currants, cherry jam, rose hip tea. Hello! Brisk and bright, light pretty wine to drink, gentle, sleek tannins and faint herbal character, with fine, frisky acidity. Like the tightness to close. This feels good. Real good.”
- Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

About the Producer
Gentle Folk are another of the young brigade redefining the Adelaide Hills wine region. In winemaker Gareth Belton’s words, “We don’t like to define our styles or winemaking techniques, we just make wine in the way we feel is right for the grapes and season and most importantly, with maximum drinkability and enjoyment in mind.” the wines are naturally made but remain refreshing and crowd-pleasing, and considering their tiny production are excellent value.
The Adelaide Hills may be the most energised wine region in the country. The sense of exploration and creativity amongst the tribe of talented young winemakers in this region is unparralelled. The Hills has become crucible of Australian wine talent, offering an array of varieties, from classics such as Shiraz, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, to new varieties like Nebbiolo and Grüner Veltliner for the younger generation to play with. Every vintage brings new colour and complexity to the rich wine, food and produce culture of this cool climate region.
No variety captures the hearts and minds of the wine lover quite like Pinot Noir. It’s the unicorn of many a winemaker. Notoriously fickle to grow, this delicate red variety can deliver a kaleidoscope of flavours and aromas, from the bright and floral to the moody and mysterious and everything in between. The cooler regions of Australia are where Pinot Noir is most at home. Look to Tasmania and Victoria for the best examples, with some quality wines beginning to show from the Great Southern and from the cooler parts of NSW. Falling in love with Pinot Noir can be a life long affair, beware the charms of this most enchanting of grapes.
