The Corona series are the introductory wines to the Freeman range. They are designed to be “easy-drinking Italian inspired wines brimming with personality, flavour and texture” that seriously overdeliver in the value for money stakes.
The Pinot Grigio is 100% grown on the Freeman estate in the Hilltops. 2016 was a great season for the region and the Pinot Grigio fruit hit perfect ripeness, the fruit positively bursting with flavour.
Winemaker Dr. Brian Freeman opted to ferment a small portion of this release in oak building a little texture and savouriness into the finish. Nice attention to detail in a wine of this price.

What It Tastes Like
Musky perfume with a little floral lift. Nashi pear and toasted cashews. Ripe vibrant fruit in the mouth with a slight mineral edge. It’s full of fun and fruit. Roundness from the barrel time and a lick of citrus and spice on the finish seals the deal. Nails the brief of Summer friendly white perfectly.
There is no other way to describe 2016 – it was a boomer! Good winter rains, even spring temperatures, then a burst of summer heat that compressed the harvest into a pressured six-weeks. First to be picked was the Pinot Grigio – fully ripe flavour-packed grapes, from low-yielding vines.
It is a crisp approachable style made from lightly pressed whole-bunch grapes. Palate structure derives from small batch fermentation, some in stainless steel, and a portion in old oak barrels, the latter contributing an attractive savouriness.

About the Producer
Freeman Vineyards was established in 1999 by Dr Brian Freeman, previously the Professor of Wine Science at Charles Sturt University, Wagga Wagga, in the Hilltops region of New South Wales. It boasts some unique varieties in the Hilltops region, a true pioneering producer of NSW.
This is one to watch. The Hilltops in NSW has some huge potential. The high altitude vineyards in this region are producing some of the most epic cool climate Syrah/Shiraz and Cabernet on the market at the moment. With a relatively low profile (for now), the value to be had in this area is second to none. But get in quick, the word is getting out and it wont be that way for long. Love yourself the more refined side of Shiraz? The Hilltops is a place you really need to check out.
Pinot Gris is a variety that can take on many forms. In one instance it’s crisp, racy and light as in the case of Pinot Grigio, the next it’s round and voluptuous, and sometimes it presents as pinkish or even red! This versatility makes it an incredibly interesting grape. It loves skin contact, it loves lees stirring, it loves anything a winemaker can throw at it, but always it will show lovely perfume, tasty fruit and excellent mouthfeel. It might just be the most underestimated white variety in the country.
