- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
If you're a fan of Australian Riesling, then Frankland Estate's Isolation Ridge release just has to be in your cellar.
Sitting alongside the Poison Hill Riesling, this wine really paints the picture of what Hunter Smith and the Frankland Estate team believe Great Southern Riesling should look like.
Organically grown, single vineyard wines of startling purity and intensity. Absolutely top of the Riesling tree in Aus. The 2016 release Isolation Ridge has a touch more residual sugar than previous years as Hunter looks for more generosity in this wine on release. Mission accomplished.
This is a triumphant wine and truly one of the country's premier Rieslings. Try it while you can!
What it Tastes Like
Apple blossoms, fresh juicy limes, bickfords cordial, such a piercing perfume. Great stuff. It's definitely lusher than last year. More generous in flavour with orange jellies and citrus but with structure and crystalline acidity at its core. A mineral edge carves out a track through the finish like a diamond cutting glass. Excellent Riesling.
96 points "All the hallmarks of this site are at play with camomile and blossom, the lightness of touch on the palate with its citrus notes, some concentration and texture yet the steely freshness and acidity so pure it creates an ultra-fine and long finish." - James Halliday (Australian Wine Companion)
Perhaps one of the most isolated vineyard sites in the world it seemed only fitting that we called our vineyard site “Isolation Ridge Vineyard”. This range of single vineyard, organically grown wines reflects the uncompromising passion and devotion we have to making unique wines that reflect a true sense of place. Riesling wines from the Frankland River region are renowned for their intense varietal flavours and crisp fresh acidity. The Frankland Estate Isolation Ridge Vineyard Riesling is consistently ranked among the best in Australia and has won widespread critical acclaim.

Their cool climate Rieslings are regarded as some of the best in the region and the country with several single vineyard releases that could be a contender for Australia’s Best Rizza. Frankland Estate is a cutting a mean wave through the industry and picking up a lot of recognition in the process.
The Great Southern is the largest wine region in the country. Though more and more, the label “Great Southern” is becoming redundant. It is the sub-regional exploration of terroir which is distinguishing this region. From Frankland River to Porongorup, from Mount Barker to Denmark, the detailed and stylish wines emerging from these sub-regions are some of the most intriguing in the country. No longer a “poor man’s Margaret River”, whether you love Riesling, Cabernet, Shiraz or Pinot, this stunning cool climate region will blow you away with the value and refinement inherent in everything it produces. And the good thing is, it is only getting better.
Riesling is the king of white grapes. With unparalleled versatility, it rightfully carries the ‘Noble’ name tag. We make extraordinary Riesling in Australia, from far and wide. From the classic searing, razor-sharp styles in the Clare and Eden Valleys to the fragrant and enchanting wines of the Great Southern, Australian Riesling is a chameleon that can take on many forms. Sweet, steely, lean or textured, the world of Riesling is a thing of wonder that should be explored by all true lovers of wine.
