The 2016 Flor Marché Pinot Noir is tip-top value.
Made from organic fruit, set to a juicy drink now style, this wine is made exactly the same as the top Pinot Noir from Flor Marché. The easiest drinking fruit goes into this wine, the earthier fruit to its higher priced counterpart. Made with a gentle touch, this is made without any additions save for a dash of sulphur at bottling.
Pinot with some interest factor doesn’t come around often at this price. Great job done here by the team at Flor Marché.
What It Tastes Like
Opens a little meaty and savoury, there’s more to this wine than the price suggests. It’s on the lighter side of medium bodied, sweetly fruited and wrapped in fine yet savoury tannin. Simple and smashable is the theme here.
Closure: Screw Cap
Bottle Size: 750ml
Drink Until: 2018
About the Producer
All the work is done in the vineyard, you shouldn’t need to make additions if you pick at the right time.
At least, that’s the thinking of Elizabeth Reed and Skigh McManus of Flor Marchè. Their eye-catching, naturally made wines are some of the more intriguing creations coming out of Western Australian wine at the moment.
This young duo are making a splash as they, along with their contemporaries, bring natural wines to the forefront of Margaret River and Great Southern wine.
The Great Southern is the largest wine region in the country. Though more and more, the label “Great Southern” is becoming redundant. It is the sub-regional exploration of terroir which is distinguishing this region. From Frankland River to Porongorup, from Mount Barker to Denmark, the detailed and stylish wines emerging from these sub-regions are some of the most intriguing in the country. No longer a “poor man’s Margaret River”, whether you love Riesling, Cabernet, Shiraz or Pinot, this stunning cool climate region will blow you away with the value and refinement inherent in everything it produces. And the good thing is, it is only getting better.
No variety captures the hearts and minds of the wine lover quite like Pinot Noir. It’s the unicorn of many a winemaker. Notoriously fickle to grow, this delicate red variety can deliver a kaleidoscope of flavours and aromas, from the bright and floral to the moody and mysterious and everything in between. The cooler regions of Australia are where Pinot Noir is most at home. Look to Tasmania and Victoria for the best examples, with some quality wines beginning to show from the Great Southern and from the cooler parts of NSW. Falling in love with Pinot Noir can be a life long affair, beware the charms of this most enchanting of grapes.
