Express winemaker Ryan O’Meara doesn’t want to be lumped in with the natural wine movement. His and co-founder Pete Pedro’s wines may have that unforced, hands-off winemaking that many of their younger contemporaries share, but their wines are still quite clean and conventional in style.

Until this wine.

Ryan explained how he came across an unusual parcel of fruit - a blend of Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling from a single Great Southern vineyard - that he felt compelled to work with. He didn’t know where it fit, but after some thought he decided to use it to have his first crack at a skin contact white wine.

This is hardly an ‘orange’ wine though, but the 4 days (a portion of) this wine spent on skins has added a lovely nutty, spicy complexity to what is beautifully bright and pure fruit.

A great intro into skin contact whites and a just a delicious wine.

What It Tastes Like

92 points “Quince and pineapple and faint nuttiness and citrus. Lanolin to taste, strong in a way, slippery and then faint chalkiness to close. Slips down easy. Texture is super actually. Lots of character. Great drinking. Easy drinking.”
