- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
The Elderslie wines are the product of a partnership between top-flight winemaker Adam Wadewitz (ex Best’s and winemaker at Shaw & Smith) and Nicole Roberts (longtime wine industry professional). Their aim is to create “Delicious wines that reflect the unique sites and seasons of the viticulturally diverse Adelaide Hills” and with their first releases, they are off to a flying start.
Their first release of Pinot Blanc is sensational. Sourced from a cooler pocket of the Hills, this is one of the country’s most exceptional renditions of the variety.
With immense flavour intensity and a mineral-charged spine, this is Pinot Blanc at its finest.
What It Tastes Like
A subtle yet complex wine which shows the full spectrum of varietal nuance. From flighty floral notes to fresh garden herbs, a hint of grapefruit and something like crushed rocks. Every aspect of this smells enticing. It glides through the mouth, with glassy texture, quartz and lemon-infused flavour. Exciting wine. Finely constructed and intricately detailed.
95 points. “A single wine, like the first swallow of spring, cannot change my views about the worth of pinot blanc. While the fruit aromas and flavours are unremarkable, the texture and structure of this wine is exceptional. Grainy, minerally and fantastically long as well as complex, this haunts the mouth for an impossibly long time after it is tasted.”
- James Halliday (Australian Wine Companion)
Grapes: Pinot Blanc
Site: Cold site at 450 meters above sea level, a lovely pocket just behind Woodside
Soils: Sandy Loams over Granite and quartz
Area: 1ha The site is very well suited to white varieties, it consistently ripens about a week to ten days behind other sites in the mid valley of the Hills. This is due mainly to the cold air drainage to the site. The Granite parent rock along with interspersed quartz was always of interest too. This site is all about fine mineral acidity.
Hand-picked, whole bunch pressed, sent to old French oak, natural ferments, lees stirred, bottled in late August.
Closure: Screw Cap
Bottle Size: 750ml
Drink Until: 2026
About the Producer
It is the intention of Adam Wadewitz and Nicole Roberts to produce wines that express various vineyards across the Adelaide Hills. The wines are designed to reflect season and site rather than the hand of the winemaker. Their project is in its infant years but early indicators are very, very promising. Uncompromising quality. Premium philosophy. Watch this space.
The Adelaide Hills may be the most energised wine region in the country. The sense of exploration and creativity amongst the tribe of talented young winemakers in this region is unparralelled. The Hills has become crucible of Australian wine talent, offering an array of varieties, from classics such as Shiraz, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, to new varieties like Nebbiolo and Grüner Veltliner for the younger generation to play with. Every vintage brings new colour and complexity to the rich wine, food and produce culture of this cool climate region.
