- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
Eden Road are hot stuff in Canberra at the moment.
They boast one of the finest up and coming portfolios in the country. Their Long Road range is cracking value for money.
We were quite taken with this little number. Just look at the colour on this little old Pinot Gris. What 12 hours of cold soaking on skins can do for this variety is amazing. Ludicrously delicious drink it was too.
More and more producers are realising the potential of this variety to make interesting not just smashable wines, and this just so happens to be both.
What It Tastes Like
Wicked colour, blushed with copper and orange tinges. Smells of wild white strawberrs, grandma poaching pears, musk sticks. Very identifiably Gris. I’d say almost blousey in style but that doesn’t do it justice. It is intentionally ‘big’ and carries it well. Voluptuous fruit, juicy acid, orange peels and cinnamon spice. The whole shebang. Awesome.
91 points. “A ‘ramato’ style skin contact Pinot Gris from Team Eden Road. Light salmon, it has a flourish of pink grapefruit and musk before skin contact grip. The bitterness of the phenolics works nicely with the fruit flourishes, even if you’d like a little more ripeness. Tasty wine though, and I enjoyed a few glasses.”
- Andrew Graham (Oz Wine Review)
Pinot gris is a white wine grape variety with rose coloured skins and is typically made into a white wine. We allow a small amount of skin contact to encourage some colour but more importantly some texture from phenolics in our pinot gris. The result is a lovely blush coloured, textural, and crunchy pinot gris. The wine shows strawberry shortcake and nashi pear aromas and has a delicate and refreshing palate.

About the Producer
If you are looking at the ‘new guard’ of the Canberra wine scene, Eden Road is a name you need to know.
Winemaker Nick Spencer is right at the forefront of Canberra’s next generation of winemaking rockstars. Since he famously won the Jimmy Watson Trophy in 2009 with his first release of the Long Road Shiraz, the wines from Nick and his team have been highly sort after. And rightfully so, they are outstanding. These are premium quality wines from special sites across the cooler parts of NSW. Eden Road is one of the country’s most dynamic modern wine operations and definitely one to keep an eye on.
Pinot Gris is a variety that can take on many forms. In one instance it’s crisp, racy and light as in the case of Pinot Grigio, the next it’s round and voluptuous, and sometimes it presents as pinkish or even red! This versatility makes it an incredibly interesting grape. It loves skin contact, it loves lees stirring, it loves anything a winemaker can throw at it, but always it will show lovely perfume, tasty fruit and excellent mouthfeel. It might just be the most underestimated white variety in the country.
