The Rao is the top Chardonnay from the Domaine Simha portfolio. Impeccable fruit from a 40-year-old vineyard in the Derwent Valley of Tasmania was hand picked on a fruit day, it was whole-bunch pressed and sent to two new demi-muid to rest for 12 months on lees, then bottled without adjustment or filtering. This is a powerful Chardonnay, the fruit from these mature vines shining bright. Tasmanian precision acidity backed by deeply concentrated fruit. There's a wild edge here also, enough to keep you engaged and guessing to the last drop. Only 120 dozen made.
What it Tastes Like
Presence. Persistence. Personality. It's all here. It fires through the palate with a lone laser beam of acid. Loads of concentration. Sulphide funk, white flowers, ginger, grapefruit. It flies - searing, cleansing and flashing its way through a long and glorious finish. Tension held from front to back. It's very good and a little wild. Compelling Chardonnay of personality.

About the Producer
Indian-born winemaker Nav Singh brings a holistic philosophy to his small but elite Tasmanian operation. He makes ultra-small batches of premium wines from vineyards farmed sustainably in the Derwent Valley. He comes at winemaking with a natural bent, the wines produced with a view towards biodynamics. These are wonderful, idiosyncratic wines that offer a different view of Tasmania.
