- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
Robert Cragg is exploring alternative from across South Australia, gunning for vibrant, smashable wines with some interest. His Fiano sourced from Langhorne Creek is very easy to throw back. It's a white with big flavour and plenty of swagger. This is perfect for casual drinking with friends and family and makes a great alternative to the more 'classic' classic-dry-whites out there. As Mike Bennie called it, "Refreshing, good to drink, BBQ wine of highest order. Splash it around." Only 85 dozen made.
What it Tastes Like
"Tinned peach, lemon balm, lime curd, floral notes, zesty citrus peel sort of scents, touch of cucumber. Flavours of tinned peach in syrup, but without the stickiness, or with just a touch. Refreshing, good to drink, BBQ wine of highest order. Splash it around." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)
91 points & special value star. "Has that cool precision of fiano, and its textural subtext, most likely just its acidity, but it's a particular form of acidity. The fact that fiano has this standoffish nature simply encourages you to come back for more." - James Halliday (Australian Wine Companion) 88 points. "Tinned peach, lemon balm, lime curd, floral notes, zesty citrus peel sort of scents, touch of cucumber. Flavours of tinned peach in syrup, but without the stickiness, or with just a touch. Fiano is one of the most promising emerging white varieties in Australia. It’s a variety that likes to be warm and dry, exactly the kind of variety that is perfectly sustainable in Australia. Characterised by fresh fruit flavours, refreshing acidity and a lovely, slightly waxy mouthfeel, Fiano is a variety that is prospering across the country. It makes a great alternative to Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Gris which is far better suited to the Australian climate.
