- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
Comyns & Co. is a producer sure to shake up the Hunter Valley wine scene, and this Rosé is a terrific example of what this colourful, fun-loving new label is all about. Winemaker Scotty Comyns has years of experience making wine for bigger Hunter producers, but this inspiration for this pretty pink thing comes from a place a million miles away from Cessnock in the south of France where Scott spent time winemaking. It's produced from Merlot so it's not short of flavour, with 30% barrel ferment adding extra richness and complexity. It finishes, dry, crisp and savoury, and is an excellent nod to the much-loved Provencal style of rosé. As Campbell Mattinson says "it works a treat", and is just a vibrant, interesting and all around fun-loving wine!
What it Tastes Like
"This wine doesn’t do the new brand any harm. It’s elegant and well measured; it walks a mid line between the wholly fruit-driven and the more savoury styles going around. There’s fruit but there’s spice too; the colour has some pink but it’s not of the electric variety. Berries, spice, bramble and earth. It works a treat." - Campbell Mattinson
89 points. "Scott Comyns – ex Pepper Tree – has gone out on this own. A bunch of fresh young whites (and this rose) have just been released. This wine doesn’t do the new brand any harm. It’s elegant and well measured; it walks a mid line between the wholly fruit-driven and the more savoury styles going around. There’s fruit but there’s spice too; the colour has some pink but it’s not of the electric variety. Berries, spice, bramble and earth. It works a treat." - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front) "Inspired by talented winemaker Scott Comyns' time spent working in the south of France, this is one of four debut releases from the 2016 vintage under the new Comyns & Co label. Comyns has worked at Tempus Two, Pepper Tree and Briar Ridge but has branched out on his own for this range; which is made at the Andrew Thomas winery in the Hunter Valley, where Comyns also now works. The label designs - by Comyns' artist brother Angus - hint at the irreverent style of the wines; easy-to-drink and fun. This is made from merlot and is savoury and dry in the Provencal style. A label to watch out for." - Winsor Dobbin (Winsor's Choice)
Strawberries and Cream. Dry style, Southern French inspired. This rosé was produced from Merlot. Pressed off its skins after a four hour cold soak. 30% barrel ferment also adds to the complexity of this wine. Berry on the palate and dry in style, the vibrant luscious fruit is balanced by a refreshing finish.

About the Producer
Comyns & Co.
Comyns & Co. is the exciting new label of highly awarded young Hunter Valley winemaker Scott Comyns and his wife Missy. After years of plying his trade with bigger Hunter producers, Scotty’s made the bold move to go out on his own and create wines that he loves. “It’s the Hunter Valley that I wanted to see”, Scotty explains… “Young, fun, edgy - we want something different that stands out”. The wines are very well made, fun to drink and provide a great alternative to more traditional Hunter Valley fare. A name to watch!
