- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
Scotty Comyns is one of the winemakers to watch in the Hunter Valley. His eye-catching ‘New Wave Hunter’ wine range has been turning plenty of heads for more than just their vivid labels.
This wine is a tip of the cap to the Hunter reds of old. Pinot Noir and Shiraz have always made for good bedfellows in this region, some of the most famous wines in the region’s history were born out of blending these two grapes.
Here, Scotty has had turned out an absolute treat. Just on medium-bodied, this is a tasty jubilant red wine perfect for all times of the year. A fresh take on an iconic wine style.
What It Tastes Like
Pretty perfume of sweet red fruit, truffles and flowers underpinned by sweet earth. Flavours of sour cherry and milk chocolate sweep through the mouth with just-picked-cranberries in toe. Gentle waves of silty tannins. Really jumps out of the glass. Good gear. More of this from the Hunter would be great to see.
Grown on premium vineyards in the Hunter Valley. Blend - 51% Pinot Noir, 49% Shiraz.

About the Producer
Comyns & Co.
Comyns & Co. is the exciting new label of highly awarded young Hunter Valley winemaker Scott Comyns and his wife Missy. After years of plying his trade with bigger Hunter producers, Scotty’s made the bold move to go out on his own and create wines that he loves. “It’s the Hunter Valley that I wanted to see”, Scotty explains… “Young, fun, edgy - we want something different that stands out”. The wines are very well made, fun to drink and provide a great alternative to more traditional Hunter Valley fare. A name to watch!
The Hunter Valley is the home of Semillon in Australia. Arguably the best in the world, Hunter Semillon is one of Australia’s most truly unique wine styles. Add to that the fact that have been producing some of Australia’s best quality Shiraz for over a century and you can see why this is one of our most loved wine regions. But with a new generation of winemakers comes innovation. Now we are seeing risks being taken, new varieties being planted and some inspired winemaking which is writing a new chapter in the Hunter Valley’s rich history. We can’t wait to see what happens next.
No variety captures the hearts and minds of the wine lover quite like Pinot Noir. It’s the unicorn of many a winemaker. Notoriously fickle to grow, this delicate red variety can deliver a kaleidoscope of flavours and aromas, from the bright and floral to the moody and mysterious and everything in between. The cooler regions of Australia are where Pinot Noir is most at home. Look to Tasmania and Victoria for the best examples, with some quality wines beginning to show from the Great Southern and from the cooler parts of NSW. Falling in love with Pinot Noir can be a life long affair, beware the charms of this most enchanting of grapes.
