- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
The Hidden Vineyard is known as Little Creek in the Basket Range of the Adelaide Hills.
Jasper and Sophie picked up a small amount of fruit from this much-loved site, gave it all their love. Fermented as 100% whole bunches, foot stomped and bottled with no additions.
It’s a pure fruited, feminine style of Pinot Noir, of a different ilk than the more robust styles of Pinot found more commonly in the area. This is a simply beautiful offering from the Buttons.
One of their loveliest wines to date.
What It Tastes Like
Poached strawberry and the sweet perfume of flowers in the garden in full bloom. A sensual palate that spreads wide with fine gritty tannin. Freshness abounds and structure resides. Great Hills Pinot with an uninhibited feel. Delicious.
Clones: martini 114 115. Little Creek Single Vineyard. 100% whole bunches stomped on, 10 days maceration in one tonne fermenters. Wild dark berry fruits, well integrated French oak, lingering broad tannins.
Bottle Size: 750ml
Drink Until: 2022
About the Producer
Commune of Buttons
We love the Commune of Buttons story and more importantly, we love the wines. Siblings Jasper and Sophie Button returned home a few years ago to help save their family vineyard, planted primarily to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay 20 years ago by their mother. They began restoring the site and transitioning to organic and biodynamic principles, and at some point decided that rather than sell off their prized grapes to others, they’d turn their hand to winemaking. Just a couple vintages in, the results have been fabulous. The wines are made very naturally with only minimal sulphur additions and slow, gentle ferments.
The Adelaide Hills may be the most energised wine region in the country. The sense of exploration and creativity amongst the tribe of talented young winemakers in this region is unparralelled. The Hills has become crucible of Australian wine talent, offering an array of varieties, from classics such as Shiraz, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, to new varieties like Nebbiolo and Grüner Veltliner for the younger generation to play with. Every vintage brings new colour and complexity to the rich wine, food and produce culture of this cool climate region.
No variety captures the hearts and minds of the wine lover quite like Pinot Noir. It’s the unicorn of many a winemaker. Notoriously fickle to grow, this delicate red variety can deliver a kaleidoscope of flavours and aromas, from the bright and floral to the moody and mysterious and everything in between. The cooler regions of Australia are where Pinot Noir is most at home. Look to Tasmania and Victoria for the best examples, with some quality wines beginning to show from the Great Southern and from the cooler parts of NSW. Falling in love with Pinot Noir can be a life long affair, beware the charms of this most enchanting of grapes.
