- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
This is the lighter, fresher side of Viognier not often seen. We've all had the big, ripe, blockbusting styles of Viognier, and some of them, sad to say have made more enemies than friends. This is a different beast altogether. Tim Kirk has managed to bottle the essence of Viognier without the 'heaviness' so often associated with the grape. No oiliness here. Just a bucket load of freshness, vitality and a lot of casual drinking pleasure.
What it Tastes Like
"Super fresh and frisky and, in general, keen to put any preconceived ideas of 'varietal character' far behind it. There are stone fruit, spice, apple blossom and citrus flavours here and they march straight on with the job: nothing heady, nothing oily, nothing in your face. Drinking pleasure? A good deal of it." - James Halliday (Australian Wine Companion)

Smells righteous in just-ripe apricot, lemon blossom, steel. In the palate, a touch too steely-tanky, a little rugged with bristling acidity, but pulls off light apricot and apricot kernel characters and that zing of acidity means refreshment time finishes the wine. DNA of viognier means there’s a bit of richness even in the body of a lighter, fresher style. Good drink." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

About the Producer
Clonakilla is one of the true icons of the Australian wine scene.
Since its inception, it has been one of (if not THE) leading lights of the Australian cool climate wine insurgence. They boast one of the most collectable wines in the country with their Shiraz Viognier and are considered the benchmark for all things Canberra.
Quite simply, one of the true gems in the Australian Wine Industry crown.
Canberra. A mountain of potential. A sleeping giant of Australian wine. The ability of this region to produce world class wines in only a relatively short history is almost second to none in the whole country. We have some absolute geniuses to thank for developing this region. People have taken notice. Canberra wine is some serious gear. With the ability to produce everything from perfumed and tightly wound Syrah, to razor sharp Riesling and a bunch of emerging varieties in the ground excelling, Canberra will be one of the ‘must watch’ wine producing regions in Australia for many years to come.
