- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
This is Heathcote Malbec but, not as you may know it, with winemaker Jarad Curwood aiming to draw freshness and vitality from the typically dense and brooding variety. Jarad's philosophy is all about capturing the essence of time and place in wine from, with each vintage being a new 'chapter' in his winemaking story. As you'd expect his winemaking is very minimalist and hands-off with the resulting wines - like this one - feeling alive and uninhibited. The 2016 vintage was grown on the Chalmers vineyard and was fermented as 50% whole bunches. It has a crunchy quality and a slippery flow, primed to be tucked in the fridge for 20 or so minutes prior to drinking. A great fresh take on a classic variety.
What it Tastes Like
Really vibrant nose with ripe berries and blue fruits. Juicy, sloshy, flavour-filled palate with all sorts of fresh berries, plums and maybe even a hint of yoghurt. Good tannin and stalky hints complete the picture. Super smashable.
Grown on the Chalmers Heathcote vineyard. 50% whole bunch.
Bottle Size: 750ml
Drink Until: 2019
About the Producer
Fellas like Jarad Curwood and his Chapter Wines label are what really excite us about the Australian wine industry at present. Jarad’s philosophy is all about capturing the essence of the time and place a wine comes from, with each vintage being a new ‘chapter’ in his winemaking story. As you’d expect his winemaking is very minimalist and hands-off with the result wines feeling alive and uninhibited. Tiny volumes produced.
Heathcote’s reputation is for big Shiraz. And they do it so well. But the times they are a changin’ with Italian varieties such as Fiano, Sangiovese, Nero d’Avola and Sagrantino all finding themselves well at home in the ancient Cambrian soils.
