- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
This delicious medium-bodied red comes from Calabria Family Wines - one of the Riverina's premier producers with what must be one of the best value for money wine ranges in the county. Nero d'Avola is the primary red grape of Sicily, and it's a grape we'll be seeing a lot more of here in Australia. It's a soft, fruit-driven variety that appears extremely well suited to our warmer grape growing conditions, and is gaining significant momentum amongst the wine trade especially. In Campbell Mattinson's words "It’s a smokin’ wine for the asking price." This is the perfect intro to the variety. Soft, slightly spicy and fruit-forward, it may not be overly complex but it sure is good to drink.
What it Tastes Like
"A steal. A winner. Back up the truck. Insert ‘buy now’ cliche here. This throaty red offers plenty of fruit and just enough point-of-difference to keep it interesting – all for $15. Earth, coal, bitumen, dried herbs and blackberry. It’s a smokin’ wine for the asking price." - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)
91 points. "Anything Calabria’s montepulciano can do, its nero d’avola can do better. A steal.
The idyllic Riverina climate of sunshine and rich red soils allows the soft black berries of Nero D’Avola to express their red cherry and dried herb aromas; the supple palate is long and gentle with fine grained tannins.
