Riesling drinkers, hold onto your hats. This is not your usual affair. The Brian Rizza is something else. Made Joe Holyman, Peter Dredge and Mike Bennie, this Tassie grown fruit is hand picked and fermented in the open where a flor-like film develops. It is then kept on skins for six weeks. The result is something flor-y and textural, nutty and thrilling to drink. Clean, crisp and classic, this is not. A wicked experience, it certainly is.
What it Tastes Like
Smells of sherry, nuts and sea-breeze with kaffir lime leaves. Savoury to taste, it runs on a slipstream of acid complete with mineral crunch. Crazy wine but uber interesting.
Farmed with organic principals though the vineyard is not certified. Open fermenters. Flor allowed to develop. Separated from other ferments to isolate flor. Six weeks on skins. Bottled without any additions.
