- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
The wines of Andries and Yoko at Brave New Wine have been thrilling drinkers all over the country this year. Their unique expressions of Great Southern wines are receiving loads of attention. And rightfully so, these are minimalistic wines with tonnes of character and are impossible to stop drinking to the very last drop. The Sunshine & Hercules Riesling was picked from a vineyard in Mt Barker. The fruit spent a few hours on skins before being sent to a combination of ceramic egg and new French oak to complete its ferment. This is not your _typical_ Great Southern Riesling, it's vibrant yet a little cloudy. An intriguing and thirst inducing style of Riesling that will excite every curious wine enthusiast.
What it Tastes Like
Tropical scents, banana, paw paw, mango, some hints of sea spray on the nose. Lime and honey with golden delicious apples and a soft powderiness to taste. It has a waxy quality from the egg ferment. Good guzzling stuff. Ridiculously drinkable.
93+ points. "Mount Barker fruit, hand picked, couple of hours on skins, cloudy juice fermented in ceramic and old puncheon, spending eight months on lees. Hand bottled with no fining or filtration. The level of wildness expected is limited to the mad angles of acidity. It’s like a citrus oil-dipped, chilled, twenty-sided Dungeons & Dragons die, slipping through your palate. Sits at that size too, crunchy-crispy, thrilling in its electric tang. Draws long, sits into a chewy pucker. It’s an inch of one of those ice-cream headaches in piercing refreshment. Bloody yes thanks." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)
Hayview Vineyard - Mt Barker. Conventionally managed. Slightly sandy karri loam soils. A few hours on skins then drained for cloudy juice ferment in ceramic egg & new French puncheon, followed by 7 months on lees. Bottled unfined and unfiltered. No additions other than minimal sulphur.

About the Producer
Brave New Wine
It is a Brave New World and these are, in every sense, Brave New Wines. This range is brought to you by husband and wife duo Andries and Yoko Lüscher-Mostert. They are making painfully small amounts of fascinating, experimental and delicious wine from some superb vineyards in Great Southern. With a vision of acquiring their own vineyard in the future, they are currently content to make wines that truly thrill them. These are natural wines crafted without additions but with bucket-loads of love and skill. Some of the most intriguing vino in WA and definitely a winery to keep an eye on.
The Great Southern is the largest wine region in the country. Though more and more, the label “Great Southern” is becoming redundant. It is the sub-regional exploration of terroir which is distinguishing this region. From Frankland River to Porongorup, from Mount Barker to Denmark, the detailed and stylish wines emerging from these sub-regions are some of the most intriguing in the country. No longer a “poor man’s Margaret River”, whether you love Riesling, Cabernet, Shiraz or Pinot, this stunning cool climate region will blow you away with the value and refinement inherent in everything it produces. And the good thing is, it is only getting better.
Riesling is the king of white grapes. With unparalleled versatility, it rightfully carries the ‘Noble’ name tag. We make extraordinary Riesling in Australia, from far and wide. From the classic searing, razor-sharp styles in the Clare and Eden Valleys to the fragrant and enchanting wines of the Great Southern, Australian Riesling is a chameleon that can take on many forms. Sweet, steely, lean or textured, the world of Riesling is a thing of wonder that should be explored by all true lovers of wine.
