- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
Brave New Wine - a wine company challenging the status quo. Fresh takes on regions, styles, smashing preconceived notions all over the place. These wines are exciting to drink if you come at them with open hearts and open minds. The "Klusterphunk" is going to blow some minds - in the good kind of way. The wine is made from organic Chardonnay grapes grown in the Great Southern. It is WA Chardonnay like you haven't seen it. Make no mistake, this is not for lovers of classic WA Chardonnay. This is for those who seek wines on the cutting edge, wines that challenge and wines that inspire thought. Only 50 dozen made.
What it Tastes Like
This is a different beast to last year. More of a 'classic' orange wine if there were such a thing. It's chalky and smells of mango, grapefruit, smoke and pith. There's some bergamot tea aromatics and a touch of Angostura Bitters in the mix. It has it's own groove and enthusiasts of the style should love it for that.
91 points "It’s orange in colour, is made via extended skin contact, in old barrels, and is more its own thing, rather than Chardonnnay. So now we’ve got that out of the way, here we go. Peach, crystallised ginger, white pepper, chamomile, or something floral, a bit of smokiness and sweaty funk. Light and fresh, tangerine and peach, but with a distinct cider vinegar tang (that I like, as it’s not dominant), gentle grip of tannin, layers of spice and a ruby red grapefruit aftertaste. It’s a wine of intrigue and oddity. It kept me coming back for more, such is its ease of drinking and interest." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)
It’s had a long carbonic wholebunch natural fermentation, with no fining, and no filtration. Aged in old barrels. It’s made from certified organic single-vineyard Great Southern Chardonnay. It’s all peach tea, pear blossom, pith, and white pepper. Super gluggable deliciousness. Only 50 doz made

About the Producer
Brave New Wine
It is a Brave New World and these are, in every sense, Brave New Wines. This range is brought to you by husband and wife duo Andries and Yoko Lüscher-Mostert. They are making painfully small amounts of fascinating, experimental and delicious wine from some superb vineyards in Great Southern. With a vision of acquiring their own vineyard in the future, they are currently content to make wines that truly thrill them. These are natural wines crafted without additions but with bucket-loads of love and skill. Some of the most intriguing vino in WA and definitely a winery to keep an eye on.
The Great Southern is the largest wine region in the country. Though more and more, the label “Great Southern” is becoming redundant. It is the sub-regional exploration of terroir which is distinguishing this region. From Frankland River to Porongorup, from Mount Barker to Denmark, the detailed and stylish wines emerging from these sub-regions are some of the most intriguing in the country. No longer a “poor man’s Margaret River”, whether you love Riesling, Cabernet, Shiraz or Pinot, this stunning cool climate region will blow you away with the value and refinement inherent in everything it produces. And the good thing is, it is only getting better.
Australian Chardonnay is a seductive variety that comes in all shapes and sizes. From the toasty and voluptuous to the lean, flinty and minerally, there is a Chardonnay out there to suit everyone. Australia’s developing prowess with this variety has been marked by the international community with wine writers such as Jancis Robinson marvelling at the outstanding value to be had right across the country. The prestige brands of Margaret River offer wines of deep flavour and power, often crafting fuller-figured Chardonnay of outstanding quality. The cooler-climate wines from the Yarra Valley, Tasmania and the like are more focused and linear, building complexity around a backbone of pristine acidity. Whatever your preference, there is an Australian Chardonnay to enchant all comers.
