- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
In only a few short vintages this dynamic couple have carved out a niche for their eponymous label as one of the most exciting and in demand wineries in McLaren Vale. Drinkability writ large across the range. The 'Junto' (Spanish for 'together') is a wine made for easily enjoying with friends and family. The 2016 may be the best release of this wine to date. The Grenache component a little higher than in previous years, the whole wine feels a little lighter on its feet and is all the better for it. This is as delicious as medium-bodied reds get from this part of the world. Incredibly versatile and impossibly more-ish, Andre and Selina have done it again.
What it Tastes Like
_93 points. "Another fantastic release from Bondar. Just the right mix of structure, flavour and interest. This is a savoury, sinewy wine first and foremost though flavours of graphite, woodsmoke, black cherry and fennel mean that there’s plenty else going on. Those strains of spicy tannin though; those fistfuls of smoked twigs and spices; they really set the scene. It twirls and twists through the mouth like it’s mapping out genes. A light-but-exquisite red wine." - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

Picked by hand, the fruit was gently handled in the winery and aged in old French oak. The Grenache comes from our 43-year old vines, the Shiraz from our 65+ year old vines, and the Mataro from a nearby site.

About the Producer
Bondar is the baby of husband-and-wife team Andre Bondar and Selina Kelly, and winners of the 2017 Australian Wine Companion’s Best New Winery! They have purchased the famous Rayner vineyard in McLaren Vale, crafting stunning Shiraz and Grenache from here, along with beautifully pure Adelaide Hills Chardonnay. I’ll leave it to them to describe what their extremely exciting venture is all about: _“Our vision has always been to make wines that create a little intrigue, that are a little different. We want to make wines that are bright, structured, mid-weight yet concentrated in flavour with a savoury element.” Super value, tiny production and delicious to drink!
The South Australian region of McLaren Vale is famous for its powerful red wines. Shiraz and Grenache have thrived for years in the Vale’s sandy soils. Nowadays, the region’s varietal diversity has majorly increased, the coastal location and warm climate proving perfect for a new wave of varieties from Italy, Spain and Portugal. The success of varieties such as Nero d’Avola, Tempranillo, Touriga Nacional, and Fiano has transformed McLaren Vale into one of the country’s most vibrant wine scenes. It’s where tradition meets innovation and it is producing some of the Australia’s finest wines.
Grenache is the great sleeping giant of Australian red wine. We are the custodians of the oldest producing Grenache vines in the world, some ancient vineyards planted as far back as the 1850’s. Modern Australian Grenache is a different beast to the wines of yesteryear, they are more youthful and vibrant, showing bright red fruit characters, silky tannins and a delicious array of spices. With the viticultural resources we have at our disposal in this country, Australia can be one of the world’s leading producers of this variety, making wines that easily rival the best of Europe.
