Brendan Keys' winemaking philosophy is pretty damn simple. Low tech wines made in a high tech world. They are honest and colourful and down right delicious. Case in point is the new vintage of his Rosé. Made from Pinot Noir from Lenswood and a little saignée juice from his premium Gower Pinot Noir, this ticks all of the right boxes. Winemaker Brendan Keys says it reminds him of, "A stroll through a French summer fête in bloom with a Vietnamese street-market twist." - make of that what you will. What it Tastes Like
Sweet floral nose of cinnamon dusted strawberry and dolop of cream. Little touch of campari/orange peel/ negroni like nose. Soft, round palate with acid tucking it all in with a herbal twist to the finish - never gets away from you, it just feels right on the money. Drink it all day long. Thinking sunglasses, pools and BBQ’s.

BK Wines is one of the poster boys of the modern artisan wine movement in the Adelaide Hills. Owner / winemaker Brendan Keys is not afraid to do things differently. His wines are all from single vineyards (some biodynamically farmed), fermented with wild yeasts, unfined and unfiltered, with extended skin contact and even clay fermentation eggs occasionally thrown in for good measure. Wild stuff!
The Adelaide Hills may be the most energised wine region in the country. The sense of exploration and creativity amongst the tribe of talented young winemakers in this region is unparralelled. No variety captures the hearts and minds of the wine lover quite like Pinot Noir. It’s the unicorn of many a winemaker. Notoriously fickle to grow, this delicate red variety can deliver a kaleidoscope of flavours and aromas, from the bright and floral to the moody and mysterious and everything in between. The cooler regions of Australia are where Pinot Noir is most at home. Look to Tasmania and Victoria for the best examples, with some quality wines beginning to show from the Great Southern and from the cooler parts of NSW. Falling in love with Pinot Noir can be a life long affair, beware the charms of this most enchanting of grapes.
