This is a ‘new’ addition to the Best’s portfolio, or rather, the reinvention of an old one.
While digging through the Best’s cellar, winemaker Justin Purser came across some wines from the 1980s. These Shiraz were made at lower alcohols and with carbonic maceration during ferment.
This lighter, joyful expression of Shiraz is becoming more and more popular today and this release adds another shade of Shiraz to the exceptional range at Best’s. This is a delicious Summer red and an absolute bargain from the Best’s cellar.
Everything that’s old is new again.
What It Tastes Like
Boysenberries, jubes, violets and red ribbon licorice. It’s free wheeling Shiraz without inhibitions. Sweet fruit and spices with soft tannin and a delicious berry-infused finish. Belting wine with loads of personality. Looks its best with a slight chill.
Grown on the Concongella vineyard.
Made using the carbonic maceration technique.

Best’s is one of the oldest owned family wineries in the country. They are famous for having a “nursery block” housing some of the oldest clonal material for particular varieties anywhere in the world.
Their wines are consistently excellent and they have a vineyard which is envied by much of the wine growing world. With a rich history and an illustrious past, this Victorian icon is one of the true treasures of the Australian wine scene.

While our robust styles of Shiraz from powerhouse South Australian regions such as the Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale may have put Australian wine on the map, Shiraz from our cooler regions are giving the variety a new look. Wines from Canberra, all parts of Victoria, the Adelaide Hills, and the Great Southern, are all delivering wines of finesse and spice set to a lighter framework. The tapestry of Australian Shiraz is richly diverse, and will only continue to develop and mature into the future.
