There's some serious 'x-factor' with the Architects of Wine releases. David Caporaletti bringing some interesting things to bottle as naturally as he can. After a year-long hiatus, there's a new release of his incredibly popular Lagrein on the market. Having lost access to the fruit in 2016, Dave was thrilled to get another crack at this wine and he has delivered the goods. This is a lighter, fresher style of Lagrein which leans heavily on its Italian influence. Picked to be fresh and lively, the dark, delicious berries deliver a juicy red wine which is off the charts on the moreish scale. An insanely small batch wine this release. Only 28 dozen made.
What it Tastes Like
Rich cocoa, mocha, plums, blackberry jam and a little leafiness to the smell. Plush and juicy on the palate with some chocolatey oak. The dark fruit is underpinned by some furry tannin and zippy acid that crackles across the tongue. Finishes with some spiced plums and little christmas cake. Cherries, small-goods and spice. Loved. It.
The first release of Lagrein in 2014 was a smash hit and unfortunately David was unable to source the fruit again in 2015 but its back in 2016 and better than ever. The 2016 version was picked a little earlier to create a livelier, fresher iteration. Super Italian in style, it's packed with dark red fruits over a core of green herbs and earth. Its balance between savoury tannins and racy acidity makes it sit at a spot-on pitch. Don't be deceived by the colour, this is a distinctly fresh medium bodied wine. 20PPM SO2 addition at bottling.

Architects of Wine is a one man operation in the Adelaide Hills. The one man, David ‘Capo’ Caporaletti, is a former real life architect. What started as tinkering in a shed making wine for personal consumption has developed into a unique, micro batch release of commercial wines that have a distinct personality.
With no formal training, (he teaches himself via wine books of an evening), he has only his palate, an aptitude for precise execution and a sense of experimentation to guide him in his winemaking exploits.
