Brad Wehr’s Amato Vino Montepulciano is a moreish and highly glugable version of this Italian variety.

Sourced from an organic vineyard in the Riverlands, this is a great value introduction to this loveable emerging variety. Once the fruit is in Brad’s capable hands, the grapes are cold soaked for 4 days, wild fermented with 20% whole bunches, then matured in aged oak for eight months. As with all the wines in this range, it is then unfined, unfiltered with minimum sulphur for protection before bottling.

Wehr is a big fan of the Italian styles of this grape produced in the Abruzzo region, a more rustic and approachable style of the grape, and he has done well to try and emulate that here.

What It Tastes Like

Medium bodied, silky, slippery and sweetly fruited. It’s a wine you could drink an awful lot of. Plump red and black fruits, exotic spices, smooth, fine tannins. This has ‘interesting mid-week drop’ written all over it. A kind of drink, don’t think wine. Hard to imagine any red wine drinker not enjoying this.
