The Amato Vino Barrel-aged Sauvignon Blanc is Brad Wehr’s take on the exceptional oaked white wines made famous in Bordeaux. This is the very best Sauvignon fruit in the Amato Vino portfolio naturally fermented with time on skins in barrel.
It’s a Sauvignon striving for power and complexity. The oak tuned in perfectly, the varietal characters shining through with determination. It’s a wine for those who like full-bodied, textural whites that pack a punch. Only 99 dozen made.
What It Tastes Like
Gun smoke over ripe pineapple, custard apple, guava, vanilla and cut grass. There great interplay here between oak and fruit. The barrel characters framing the tropical fruit so well. Flavour goes long with mouth-filling texture. It’s chewy, creamy yet cut with refreshing acidity. Very good example of oaked Sauvignon, here.
94 points “Cloudy but fine, as they say in the classics. Just-ripe pineapple, spice and smoke, slight acetone perkiness, vanilla, lime and apple. Complex. Very good too. Has a silky smooth feel, unobtrusive acidity, juiciness, savoury elements, and a ripe grapefruit tang in the finish. Such a good drink. It’s subdued, and very tasty.”

Fermented wild in one-year French oak barriques and a puncheon; aged on lees, gently stirred for 8 months. This wine has a bright golden colour and appears cloudy (deliberately) from the minimal settling and zero fining/filtration.
